Where our AuSable River tubing trips, canoe trips & kayak trips go.

COVID-19 Information

Due to CDC Guidelines on social distancing, Au Sable river trips at Rollway Resort are closed until further notice. We are as sad as you over the situation, but we cannot bus you to and from the river and meet safe distancing requirements.Cabin rentals are available after June 12th. Watercraft Rentals at our Rifle River State Recreation Area will open on June 12th.

This announcement is based on the governor’s current Executive Order. If Whitmer further extends the lockdown, we will alter availability to fit the new restrictions.

The mighty Au Sable runs half way across the state.

That’s 120 miles of paddling and takes 4-6 days.

Way too long for Au Sable River tubing trips!

Heck, that’s way too far for most people’s idea of a fun, leisurely canoe or kayak trip down the river too. Devoting a few hours, perhaps a day, to enjoying the Au Sable is more in tune with most weekenders and vacationers, whether they want to rent a canoe, a kayak, or a river tube. Which is where Rollway fits right into your northern escape schedule. There’s a lot more to see and do up north than spend your whole getaway paddling.

Not that we’ll complain if you reserve canoes, kayaks, or tubes several days in a row. We love spending time on the Au Sable too and can totally understand the attraction.

Au Sable Tubing Trips Course

The shortest tubing trip we offer starts at Bobcat Landing, runs 5 miles, and takes about 2 hours. The longest tubing trips runs 12 miles, takes 3 hours, and starts at Alcona Dam. You’ll see these marked on the map below.  Any longer than that, and you’d get waterlogged!

Of course, cruising the river in a canoe or kayak puts you in a craft that’s an actual boat, so it’s a lot more comfortable staying on the river longer. But we still have short 2.5-5 hour runs and they’re very popular. No rush though, if you want to stay out longer, you can, just make sure you’re done before 6:00. Some will want the adventure of spending the night camping enroute, and we aim to please all our guests.

You’ll find the length and the start and finish locations for all our trips detailed on the canoe trips page. And all of those spots are also shown on the map below, which covers our section of the Au Sable.
